What we found on Locanto
We checked Locanto for our comparison of Craigslist Personals alternatives. It keeps seven of the eight Craigslist traits we measure. Ads show a username, a rating and followers, so it is only partly anonymous. Here is what we found:
Cost: posting is free. Free accounts can start 10 new chats a day, and paid tiers add top spots and a phone number field.
Browsing: ads can be read without an account; replying needs one.
Who can reach you: anyone with an account. We found no audience controls.
Paid and commercial posts: Locanto's rules ban them in Personals, but ads offering paid companionship, shows and services were live when we checked. Of the 20 newest New York ads, 10 had a phone number or offered paid escort services. Our city pages have the same count for Los Angeles, Las Vegas, Chicago, London, Sydney and Melbourne.
Conversations: Locanto messages, with email alerts. You can block a user and report chats.
Where your ad can appear: Locanto's terms let it republish ads on its other sites.
Apps: iOS and Android apps from Yalwa, the company behind Locanto.

These are the other sites in our comparison, with what stood out. Each name links to its full entry.
