She advertised in Leadville’s paper, under Wanted, with the subheading Wants a Correspondent. Both towns were built on silver: Leadville was founded in 1877, at the start of Colorado’s silver boom, and Aspen’s boom began in 1879 and ended with the silver crash of 1893, though mining went on there on a smaller scale. Seven months later, the Aspen Daily Times carried a lady’s ad that also preferred a miner.
